preparing to move
yesterday i pinned down a couple of strawberry stolons in locations i wanted the daughter plants to be rather than let the plants decide...
i also noticed that those plants were producing stolons that were going to touch ground closer to the ones i had pinned than i wanted them to be...so..i am interfering in the plants lives again...to their benefit i hope in that i am not going to allow them to crowed themselves into competition for the bed's resources...i am goning to spread them out for what i imagine ( because i really don't know ) is their own good...
so i gathered up two plastic pots and a couple of the same sort of "v" shaped twigs i used to pin the stolons yesterday...
then dug out holes in the beds about the size of the pots, filling the pots with the soil i dug out...
lowered the pots into the holes and pinned the stolons down...when the plants are rooted and well established i will cut the stolons and take the plants tot he bed on the south side of the house...take them out of the pots...and plant them...
because, while the two plants in the south bed are blooming away and cooking berries, they are not producing stolons...they have invested this season's energy in producing fruit, not daughters...they need company in the bed and the east bed plants will happily provide that...there is always something to do in the garden...it is an every-day all weather sport...stay tuned...there has to be a tinge of red sometime soon.
